About the volunteering opportunity
The Bahnhofsmission am Zoo is a facility that is open 365 days a year. Every day between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., up to 600 people are provided with food, drink and clothing. Many of the guests are in extremely precarious situations: homelessness, old-age poverty, mental illness and addiction often characterize their everyday lives.
All people seeking help at the Bahnhofsmission am Zoo are met with openness and respect and are welcome as guests at any time.

Your Tasks
The tasks of the volunteers at the station mission include various practical activities. Support is particularly needed for the early shift.
The first shift of the day begins with the preparation of breakfast, which is served between 8:00 and 9:00 am. It is served through two windows from the inside to the outside: food - usually sandwiches - is served through one window and drinks such as tea, coffee and water through the other. After breakfast is served, everyone tidies up together and starts preparing the next meal.
The lunch shift starts at 11:30 and ends at 17:00. Guests can enter the facility from 12:00 noon. We try to let them in in groups, as seating is very limited and we only have a few places available. We need communicative and de-escalating people at the door to welcome guests and manage admission. In the dining room, you can help with serving food
in the dining room, work at the dishwasher or in the background.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
In principle, no special requirements are necessary. The most important thing is an open attitude towards people and a willingness to approach others without fear of contact.
In addition, you will always be supported by at least one full-time shift coordinator who is available to answer your questions and concerns throughout the day
